Hollywood Stars Call for Inclusion of Jews in Academy’s Diversity Standards

Top Hollywood stars, including Tiffany Haddish and Josh Gad, are urging the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to add Jews to its inclusion and diversity standards. Nearly 300 industry figures signed an open letter demanding recognition of Jews as an underrepresented group, criticizing the Academy for overlooking them. The letter, organized by Jew in the City’s Hollywood Bureau for Jewish Representation, highlights the importance of including Jews in diversity initiatives to combat antisemitism and promote authentic storytelling. The omission of Jews from the Academy’s list of protected groups perpetuates harmful stereotypes and erases Jewish identity. The letter calls for immediate action to address this discrimination and promote understanding and empathy for the Jewish community in the entertainment industry. Hollywood heavyweights, including Marta Kauffman and Greg Berlanti, have joined the call for the Academy to rectify this oversight and advance a just cause that has been neglected for too long. The Academy has yet to respond to the letter.
